while looking through my devwatch i saw a photo by *FideNullo -- of which, i won't say which one -- and it inspired me to find a scan of a neg from jan/07. whilst looking for that one, i saw this one.
seriously, vegas is absurd.
note to self: make photos from taxi's. do not roll down sickingly tinted windows on the escalade and start making photos. they all think you're someone when you're only a guy who knows taking a taxi from henderson to the strip sucks. why? because, first, the bastards take 1.75 hours to get to you and, second, i'm on some henderson taxi black list because i told some asshole to fuck himself because he took 1.75 hours to get to me.
on point.
normally, i think i would have preferred a fifty. that would have cropped the escalade's window frame.
but when i looked at it again i knew i left that in there for a reason.
this is what i saw.
not a crop of what i saw but really ... what i saw.
everything vegas is.
and isn't in one fucking frame.
new condo project.
overpriced bait-and-switch grand canyon tours.
fake elvis.
feeling his motivation.
fake spinner rims.
t shirts for $4.99 probably made in china.
i'm sure the rims are as well.
a dude standing in an alley.
tourists looking at the tourist center.
cold drinks.
i'm positive served in a yard-long.
made in china.
then again, the fuckers serve pepsi almost exclusively on the strip.
that sucks in and of itself.
i only got one frame.
and that's kinda what it's all about.
at the time i was in vegas i didn't usually have my own transpo. i waited in bucolic henderson for my beautiful j to return from work.
usually i didn't need to go to the strip for anything other than work.
even though i work with amazing people at properties on the strip.
i learned all about an industry magazine for "vegas drivers."
not that it was very useful knowledge.
but it made me smile that the driver enjoyed it.
dunno ... photographs like these make me realize why i had this o.c.d. thing of making frames of stuff i see...
and want to see for as long as i can.
because that 1/125th of a second ... won't happen again.
and i can put 36 of those on a single roll of film and they still don't add up to a second.
out of how many countless seconds.
it's absurd.
really.
leica mp. 35/1.4 summilux ASPH. 1/125th at f/5.6 1/2. ilford delta 100 (normal). lab scan. +8 cont. minor levels.
the second i seen the thumbnail i knew it was vegas, and yes it is an absurd place, exploit it for about 3 days then leave. any longer and you'll get sucked it.. ha
Yeah I love that pic of mine... I tried to fix it in photoshop cause as you can see it's got streaks at the bottom but it made it worse. I really love that pic because it was lined up perfect with the dogs being black white and black lol!
Elvis lives! I've always imagined Vegas to be some really surreal, excentric and tacky place. To be fair I've more than likely seen this exact scene before (or something very close to it) at the seafront of my home town of Scarborough. I hate the cheap, tacky seaside look but it makes interesting Martin Parr-like photos.
I must admit that there is a whole lotta shit in this frame to talk about. I don't know where to start!
You rode by ... didn't even get a brother a t-shirt. Hell, they were only 4 for $9.99 (before the sale). Heh.
I haven't been to Vegas in months. I need to get out there. Maybe in a few months I'll make the trip. I'll pick you up in Henderson and we'll make it to Pure in 30 minutes.
I took it in the bus on the fly and there was some thing on all the windows and I can't get rid of it in photoshop
honestly, there wasn't anything i had to do with it.
yours does look a little un-contrasty. hmm...
