Artist's Comments

yes, i do weddings albeit both begrudgingly and not without a fat check. they're stressful. probably more so than a commercial assignment.

i did this one because it was my best friend's sister. a little less pressure in one context but much more in several others.

there was this long-ass hallway. i'm sure horses used to walk thru it back in the day. the main part of the palazzo ... was built in the 15th century. i'll digress ... as soon as the ceremony started it started to rain. like a mofo. the reception was outside under umbrellas. it was still ... not all that pleasant. then ... the rain stopped ... and never came back. go figure. you should have seen the caterer and planners. stressed was a mild understatement.

walking down that hallway or whatever the hell it was ... it was old ... i saw the bride ... but ... what really caught my eye was this 11 year old boy. out of the corner of his eye i saw that he saw a girl. maybe 10. perhaps he's really "noticing" a girl for the first time. dunno.

Wow, what an expression. His face is so blatant and honest. Great picture.

hehe. this is a really great shot. what's so interesting about it is that she's blurry and he's not. it almost gives you the impression that she is just an apparition to him. it's something i can remember noticing about girls from when i was very young. i can only remember shadows of women that used to enthrall me.

i don't think i've seen another photo of yours that spoke to me so much. this is really nice. great job with tis. im glad you got it (even if you dont care for weddings). how often do people ask you to do stuff like that for them? is it quite often? how do you usually respond?

Your description says it all.

That is exactly what I loved about this photograph, not the bride, not her friends or family, although that is a very nice aspect as well, but the look in that boy's eyes. Like he just found what he was looking for and avoiding all of his life in one instance. I say avoiding, simply because at this point he will look back on and realise his childhood jus got a little smaller that day. It is days like this that change a life forever. And I am glad you portrayed this moment in this young man's life to be that of wonder, daydream, and simi-sweet joy.

Now to the part of why I felt the bride and such are a fantastic addition to the subject matter and mood. With this boy now losing one tiny bit of his childhood, his thoughts just might have for a split second gazed into the future, maybe to even his own marriage. To me, it is a lot of foreshadowing and I just love it, not every day can anyone capture a moment like that.

if only the kid didn't have that computer bag over his shoulder (or whatever kind of bag it is), the shot wouldn't be so 'dated', could have then been passed as a shot from decades ago.

beautiful still.

This is amazing, absolutely great capture!
The b/w of this picture, give it a historically meaning. Furthermore you captured a picture with a sytsem of "generation", your main matter is the wedding , but in the foreground is an onther touch of love, the eyes of the boy which is watching carefully the girl, who is too fast for him, to fast for a picture in his mind.
This impressed me.
