hermit artist.... by cweeks hermit artist.... by cweeks
venice 05 ...

i mean i know that hermits live in caves ... or really gross apartments ...

but ... i got hermit from this guy.

no, i didn't talk to him.

dunno why.

but ... how much shit does this guy have to move every fucking day?

i will say ... he does nice work ... drawings i think ... perhaps paintings ...

but ... i really liked the movement of the pigeons ... although i don't like those rats-with-fucking-wings...

leica mp. summilux 35/1.4 ASPH. So happy to have her back. 1/250th at f/4.0 and a half. agfa apx 100. shot and processed normal. NO, IT'S NOT A DIGITAL IMAGE...

and ... i'm done submitting for this afternoon ...

sorry for the deluge!

I was struggling whether I liked this or the Hermanito-photo better. I ended up liking this more. Maybe because of the pidgeons. For me they make this shot, it'd be rather empty without. But I also like this guy here, how he's casually sitting there and going on with his business, bouncing up when someone considers buying one of his works. Neat. And sunny.

You captured the feel of him perfectly. Forlorn but not quite. As though he was waiting for the next millenium to catch up with him.

maybe those suitcases are just full of drawing after drawing he can't bear to part with. Or atleast, it would be nice to think that. hm flying rats.... maybe just something beautiful which you really don't want to touch. be cool to see what he was drawing :)

Another great shot. How weird that he owns so much stuff and moves it everyday with him. It would be interesting to talk to the guy while he was drawing. Although he may be a bit crazy and you might not get much out of him. Anyways ya awesome shot love the pidgeons in the background flying about gives a nice motion to the shot.

Had some good times in Venice, like the Lenny Bruce Tribute Concert with the Mother's of Invention, where they got this big feedback going, dropped their guitars and walked of stage in tribute. 1969 clips still in my memory cache, mate. Ahh!

Great photo, I can see me being that man someday. Its weird how the choices we make affect who we become. He may not have a 9-5 job, or a family, but I bet he is happy. Or maybe just conent?

Very nice series of Venice. I couldn't comment all of them seperately so I'll comment here.
This is what street photography is all about! The stories!! Many don't have anything to tell. It's cool that you have. Keep up the good work!
Photography is not about equipment but I love Leica as much as you! =) Would be cool to see how your Leica A la carte would look like! LOL

So, this is what life on the road means :p :D
If I would be homeless I think I would make sure that everything I need fits into one bag or a shopping cart ... not this guy, what makes me thing he's not homeless, but probably an artist slightly out of touch with reality.
And yes, I hate those flying rats as well :shakefist:

ok, of course I've commented the wrong one... well!

I was saying that you like when the whites are white... it's really the american way, having a lot more whites and greys than the europeans (on b&w film photos). I think there is too much going on... Even though that's kind of the point of it : showing all the stuff that this guy has and all the pigeon that follows him, they are like a part of his life or something similar. but still too much for me, maybe if it was taken from farther away, I don't know?!

very isolated feel. When I see these people I think of the true artists out there. sure, theyre doing it soley for profit but theyre at the bottom of it all and they choose to create. I respect these people.
