the one thing about le louvre ... the louvre ... that big-ass museum which in the summer isn't worth the time to wait in line ...

that one.

with the pyramid.

odd place.

when i know security cameras are probably looking for shit all over the place ... i don't make as many photographs.

especially on private property.

i mean ... it's my inclination.

that said ... if i see a photo developing ... i tend to follow it.

i'm sure it's fucking annoying to people with me.

i mean sev ... he got some cool shit with the crowd and the mona lisa. saw him doing it but went to the back of the room so they didn't see two cameras.

a street courtesy? like catching a wave.

dunno.

close though, 'cept i've never seen two street shooters get into a fight over a photo. waves, yes.

photos, never.

so ... the one thing i noticed is that certain tourists really really really like the venus de milo.

i mean ... she had her own press line ... or so it appears.

yes, i've seen people on a press line with little digis.

funny.

i'm sure they can make a photo. ;)

maybe wanker could. i mean ... cameras don't matter.

they don't but ... they kinda do.

what caught my eye, though, in this was the fact there was a woman top frame left with a camera and a guy perfectly in the bottom frame right ... in addition to the others.

um ... besides ... that statue doesn't even have a fucking head.

don't get it.

there was other really cool stuff, though.

Oh man, someone else may have already said this, but this little throwaway just made my day, "um ... besides ... that statue doesn't even have a fucking head."

Amen to that.

I like it. It's often more interesting to see the fuss people make; taking photos and their expressions etc. rather that whatever it is they might be looking at. I almost didn't see the woman tucked away in the top left. I don't often like taking pictures on private property either, especially in museums. In fact I doubt I've ever taken a photo in a museum but I probably would if something really caught my attention. What I don't get is how you can really photograph the Venus de Milo (she does have a head, just no arms, hehe) and not end up with the same shot as everyone else. She won't move, the background won't change, the lighting will stay the same etc. The only way photographing something like that would be worth it would be if it was in an unusual setting or perhaps if you had creative control over the situation like the lighting etc.

No head? What's all the fuss about? :)

Sometimes the best memories from places like this are the reaction of the people in the room to the pieces they are looking at. Clearly, something about this one caused people to freak out.

Nice capture man.

yes, it would have been an interesing frankenstein film :) although well, APX was jsut fine for me if Agfa didn't falter! Now I am using FP4 and HP5 again sometimes! I don't like this Delta stuff as I don't like T-Max. I found out that first grain of old films can be controlled wit a good developer, secondly I finally got the wisdom that smallest grain ever ist noth the only thing to look for, but the structure of it too and more importantly how the image gets out. I found out that some of the older stuff developed in a good soup does fine work.

Yes, I'm fine! I have quite a bit of backlog of stuff to publish, stay tuned! Including new Venetian stuff that will make your eyes pop...
I also shot my butlast TechnicalPan roll. Damn, write kodak they shall get TP back and stop sterssing me :)
TP + Leitz lenses = incredible. I did some nature work and I need to get some enlargements done to check how well it fares, it looks so beauiful.

Oh, nice.

Thats the best picture i've seen to proof the cliché of japanes people always taking photographs.

I mean, I've seen them a lot in munich and everywhere else, but not all too often on a picture.

Thanks for that one.

I think it's very inique. Usually the paparazzi are the ones taking photos but it's now it's the paparazzis who are being shot!

What I can say is that asian travellers are in a very special type tourist here in France, they like to take photographs of every monument, even the most meaningless one.
Sometimes strange but we get used to their flashes when you live there :)
Recently, I noticed there were more Chinese and Korean than Japanese people visiting...

Yah.. Nate and I shot a Korean wedding at the Ritz a few months back.. We had 6 other 'photographers' like these up at the altar with the couple during the whole ceremony.. Literally inches away from the bride and groom. It was hilarious and infuriating at the same time.

Oh ya - also , I was lucky when I got my ticket it was after 3pm and the person who sold it to me was a tour group operator and some people hadn't shown up. SO, I didn't have to wait in line ! :)

My wife gave me 2 hours to go through the whole Louvre. I took 90 minutes to look at the Egyptian and Japanese exhibits and 30 minutes to look at all the famous, well known "objets d'art". I had to move fast let me tell you. :faint: :)

This was followed by dinner in the Eiffel tower. Bastards were cheap on the wine though ! 1 bottle per table of 4 - C'mon now ! :shakefist:

Cheapest wine while in France: $3 (and I think it we got it at a gas station!) - it was a decent table wine, obviously consumed the day of purchase. ;)

i have a photo of my dad picking venus's ass... crazy the crowds you see in that place... waited freaking an hour in line to see the astronomical let-down that is the mona lisa...

then me and my dad thought it a better use of our time to stand in front of venus posing for the thousands of tourists taking photos...

we're a household name now.

Yeah that makes a LOT more sense; I never really understood what the whole hubub was, because you could just go out anywhere and buy a big old print of the girl.

I did love that big statue on that landing of the stairs, but it strikes me as odd that all these guys are in suits. Like... they were on a field trip or something. Oriental tourists and their cameras, gotta love em.

Next time you are on the line, take an 800 disposable, see what you can get.

Just for fun..

I would be interested to see what comes of it.

I found myself an M2 mountable minolta retractable fan flash at work today.. Maybe i should track one down so i can just be ' the shit '

It wasnt a camera, it was just a flash for an M2, from back when minolta was working with leica.

When you are hired, are you shooting " for " them, or still for yourself, mostly.. (if you get what i mean)

when i'm hired i'm shooting for myself -- with rights licensed to the client for specific purposes and lengths of time -- but it's always for myself!

ok, these guys are not taking a pic of the venus de milo. the one at the top of the stairs, with it's own press gallery, is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. it's one of my favs. beautiful. i say 'it' cause she doesn't have a head. just a beautiful object without a face. :)
