so ... there are times and places for every type of format for photography. if a client says, "i need the images in new york by 2.00p our time," there is no way i'm going to bust my ass going to a lab, processing, scanning and ftp'ing when i could shoot digital and ftp the post-edited work. no way. okay ... if they'll pay for the extra effort, sure, but normally this isn't the case.

this assignment -- for a general-interest-yet-health-oriented monthly magazine for women 18-35 -- was to be shot digital.

yes, i still popped off a few frames with leica gear ... but .. this is digital.

since most friggin' general interest mags in the u.s. shy away from b/w ... for reasons i won't put here ... i left it in colour so that you guys can see that, yes, i shoot colour as well. we wanted a light healthy image that glowed.

doesn't take much to make molly sims glow. she's a hotty. she's cool. i love working with her.

eos 1d mark 2. 70-200/2.8L at 4.5. 1/640th. 800 iso (i love a little grain - the film lover in me will never die). backlit sun from behind. negative fill on left. foamcore (white) on the right and just under the face. negative space for text.

i shot at 4.5 rather than my normal wide open pedal to the floor as i wanted a bit more depth than two-eight allows. just an inch more of depth was perfect.

note: for all of those that wonder how i can post photos such as this: i own the rights. this is "an out" or a frame that was not released to the client. i can do anything with it except sell the rights in conjunction with a "tacit endorsement" (e.g., ad, endorsement, etc.).

She's very pretty. I don't like the framing because it cuts off the chin, but that's just a pet peeve of mine.

oh boy and i cant listen to you at summit cos i wont be there ;)
i like the shot obviously ;)
:iconargocat8:
wow she looks like the perfect model for such a publication - natural, healthy...I mean she's gorgeous but she still has a few tiny wrinkles like we all do in real life ;)
I have to confess, I saw an episode of Las Vegas the other night, and I just wanted to slap her character! hehe, I'm sure she is much more "normal" in the flesh so to speak

love the backlit glow, it's so soft, and the background colour is so complementary to her eyes and colouring

yes colour is nice ;) I think B&W should be seen in mags more....classy and classic I say :shakefist:
