the result of banter by cweeks the result of banter by cweeks
i love banter. whether it's complete bullshit or not. it's like the moment. that moment of banter. or perhaps moments of banter.

this is a "fuck around" shot. just my friend. me. my camera.

and ... banter.

it was good banter.

how i remember nik is this photo. furtively looking over her shoulder.

a bit of a smile.

mischeivious eyes.

but not cat-like.

i'd never banter with a cat.

i'm a dog person.

not that i hate cats.

i'm just a dog person.

not that that has anything to do with banter.

but ... perhaps. ;)

canon eos1dm2. 70-200/2.8L. at f/3.5. a 400th? i think. either 200 or 400 iso. YES THIS IS A DIGITAL CAMERA. the image was converted to b/w in ps cs using channel mixing. slight levels. slight curves. +6 cont. a bit of unsharp mask.

That expression tells a whole lot more than you're letting on no doubt. It's definitely one of the best shots in your gallery - and boy is that saying something. Perfectly framed too.

I'm having fun on your site, so I hope you don't mind all the comments. The model looks like the actress, Catherine Keener. I thought it was her. You know who I'm talking about? She was in "Being John Malkovich." She's tall and lean.

i imagine her saying something like "what do you mean by that? hmmmmmmm???" i like it! very spontaneous!

by the way, a little off-topic, how many bloody cameras do you have anyway? each shot i see you're using a different one... geez!!! life's so unfair!!!

Just did my first pro portrait photo and it was the direction and banter that I was the weakest at! I got nervous once my cilent was standing in front of my promt-to home-made totally unprofessional "studio". After about 60 shots (earlier i posted about 40+ but it was more like 80+ now that I think..) we both began to finally relax.

It was the banter that helped the most. I got brave, we share a common volunteer work with developmentally challanged adults, so I brought up our "kids" and that really helped.

But giving direction, as I should have been doing, I found to be very intimidating as this was a gentleman that remembers when I was born. I know you must be swamped with questions/comments, but if you have any advice on how to direct clients during formal portraits....I can deal with the homemade non-commercial studio...I'm just that good with digital softwares...*LOL* but....to get that elusive look, the glance, the hint of a smile..I seem to miss by a mile.

i did get the portrait done finally! Didn't know what to charge, but I am satisfied with my fee. thanks for listening!

The model's expression is fantastic, and the photo is very well done, with the exact crop to enhance the expression! Maybe a bit more of contrast, adding a bit of black tone would add a plus.
But I like it anyway!

man, you must be getting a lot of pretty stupid questions since you have to practically spell out what ever medium you're using to take the pic.

Those are some crazy pretty eyes...

Beautiful lighting and tone here buddy. The expresion captures the playfulness of the banter perfectly.

*trying to figure out what the conversation was about*

I'll guess that you were trying to get her to share some of her empanadas with you. ;)

Nice, playful shot man. Classic photography.

when one exposes for their primary subject and it's a few stops less than the background ...

the background tends to get blown.
