50% Off Sale

and "Going out of Business" are my favourite ways in which rug stores try and get you to come in.  Some have been "going out of business" for ten years.  And the 50% off rugs ... there are two of them.  Both smelling of cat piss.

Not that anyone should ever own a cat. ;)  I hear they jump from third and fourth stories quite well though. :)

I love moving.  So far it's been easy.  Been trying not to work as much as I usually do so I can move …

Seriously, cannot wait to put something inside the new place so that we can friggin' sit.

'twill be very nice indeed.

I know … where are the submissions?  They're either on a disc in an envelope or a folder on the mac.

I've been doing dual-edits of my workflow, by the way.  First, I do it the normal way with PhotoMechanic and then PhotoShop CS3.  Then, I do it all within Aperture.  I know a lot of people don't like using Aperture but for those who don't need to manipulate their photos, Aperture is amazing.  True you can't do layer after layer after layer of whatever the fuck one does to make landscape photos pop off the screen, but if you already have amazing imagery … there's not much you don't have to do. ;)

See … after my selects in PhotoMechanic I'd have to dump 100 images at a time into PhotoShop CS3 in order to adjust contrast, unsharp (since I don't like in-camera sharpening) mask, levels and resizing.  In Aperture I don't have to dump a shitload of photos into another editor; I can do them all within Aperture.  Resizing is done on the export.  I'm really digging the the fact I'm saving lots and lots of time.

If you have to do adjustment layer after adjustment layer, perhaps Aperture's not for you.

In the "real world," though, where you have to have it "nailed in-camera," it's amazing. ;)

Seems to me that Aperture is almost the "anti-manipulators" photo-editing program. ;)

And it's cheap.  So much so I'm almost lamenting having spent the $$$ on PhotoShop and the upgrades.

Then again, you have to be using a Mac.

Then again, I wish everyone was using a Mac.  But that's just me.

Also, I'm going to be doing a newsletter soon – among other things.  So … if you don't mind email me with your first and last name and dA username (so I know exactly who you are).  Don't worry you won't be getting fucking Anatrim spams or penny stock tips.  Promise.  I mean if you really want to lose weight, I'll totally forward you some Anatrim spams. ;)

I really wish I knew how and why I get more Ana-fucking-trim spams than regular email.

Dammit.

J's tired of hearing me bitch and moan about Anatrim.

And, seriously, I know more about hand-knotted Pakistani rugs than I ever thought I'd know.  Have any of you tried to buy hand-knotted Oriental (can't stand that word but that's what they're called) rugs?  Those rug-dealers are a fucking trip.  I love the fact that one of them tried to tell me a potential candidate rug was Pakistani and I looked at the front and back and said, "Are you sure this isn't from India?"

"oh, I'm sorry, sir, you're right."

All I want to do is make photos.  In-camera, of course.  I don't want to know about rugs.

But I really don't want to get ripped off either.
Last night whilst walking from Target back to the car … it was so incredibly lovely outside …

Except for a bit of wind … the weather here in L.A. has made it more L.A. than Hell-Ay of late.

Okay … I need to finish this last cup of espresso, get in the shower and go meet our friendly rug dealer to the north of us.

Don't forget to email me !

Name (first and last)
dA Username

And … lastly … 'cept it never seems when I say "lastly" it's really "lastly" … go check out ~glitterdarkstar's journal … she features some really cool DD's of her own choosing.  She does it for the art, not for the pageviews. ;)  I'm seriously amazed at the audacity of some people on this site.  Not Lore, though, just some others.  She loves art and making photos and sharing and I think that's what an art-community is all about.  Not some pageview-pissing-contest.  Besides if you want pageviews just shoot self-portraits of yourself nude.  If you build it, they will come. ;)  Not literally I hope.  ;)

*looks at an email spam from Maxwell Burkett about fucking Anatrim*

*deletes said spam from blackberry"*

Oh yeah, did you see the new Curve from Blackberry?  They have finally jumped into the multimedia pool head-fucking-first.

And, as always, thank you all for the faves, comments, devwatches and everything!

Hope this finds you all very very well!

Cheers from the ultra-temperate LA!

p.s., if you're going to give me shit about anti-manipulation, save your fucking breath or keystrokes ... ;)

UPDATE:

so ... as we were haggling over pakistani-made handcrafts ... my friend mario was covering a major news story in los angeles.  literally ... right up the street from where he lives.  although i'm sure we would have had a view of this horrible nightmare started by some fucking idiot, we weren't in the city today.

all of those deer, coyotes, rabbits, bob cats, etc., etc., and they have no pretty home which "was" griffith park.  bastard.  glad they caught him though.

sucks.

looks like kevork was working overtime today as well.

as was just about every news photographer.

check this out ...

here's the view from our new bedroom window ...

luckily, the fire isn't all that close but i still feel shitty for the everyone involved.

anyway ... a new rug and a newly blackened hillside to view.

and because J is a smart-fucking-ass she was imitating a zoo p.i.o. (public information officer), "yeah, we've hosed down the tigers; we're hoping for the best."

not that anyone should laugh about that ... but ... whatever.

she makes me laugh.

Doesn't everybody have a Mac? :giggle:

Gotta love it. I haven't picked up Aperature, but we have some PS action on a few machines. Perhaps I'll give it a shot in a few weeks (I wish I had time to shoot).

Don't worry about the $$$ ... it just $$$. ;)

I hit the email ... and checked out the Curve. Wow. I thought the Pearl was cool, but now I'm rethinking that plan. :)

Cheers mate. Holla.

I love Aperture. Primarily for it's organising/keyword ability. Type in what I want, then edit the best in CS2 (soon to be CS3).

When I bother to take pic's that is.

"Besides if you want pageviews just shoot self-portraits of yourself nude"

This is just about my biggest pet peeve here on DA. I am so tired of some person taking pics of themselves naked to show the world cause they haven't the balls to do it in front of anyone else. I am also peeved by it cause more than half are poor lighting, poor framing, poor concepts, usually in a dirty bedroom with their "Emo" posters in the background. If they do have the consideration to provide a back drop, it will be a sheet of some sort, and instead of plain colors it will be patterned, so as to suggest its more than just stock its art. And forget taking the time to get rid of the ripples in the fabric, cause that takes the art out as well.

And who is providing them with a CRAP load of pageviews? Just a bunch of perverts who have to write nasty comments because their DA account is cheaper than actually subscribing to a porn site.

Then again, I guess its poetic justice. There isn't much to say for most of the porn sites out there either. I suppose though, bravo to them for actually taking the time to make a dime off it.

I actually saw some lame poses done by some barely 18 year old girl, who couldn't model her way into a school newspaper. She was naked of course, have half a million hits, cause she takes requests. She had the same "I'm serious" pose in all of them. She had a paypal donation button, and would thank the perverts for sending her money so she could buy a better camera for future stock.

I like to get page views, cause it is a warm fuzzy in my day. I like to think that perhaps I had inspired something in someone or made someone look at one of images for more than a passing glance at a thumbnail. But I won't sell out to do it either. I don't wake up at 5AM to go get a picture so people will come to my site. I do it cause I like the actions of going out after photos and the experience and knowledge I gain from having to show up a dozen times without the sunrise only to search for something else to shoot before I go back home. I like it when on that 13th visit to the same location I thought might produce a good picture, changing the time of day each time cause the sun won't be in the same spot twice in a row, to find that the weather was right, and so was my vision.

Hmmm. It appears I started to rant again. All because you and I share the same distaste for self portrait nudes. Sorry

Actually, the forest needs fires to stay healthy... in a way, it is worse for them that we put them out than start them. Better for the people with houses there, though...

i doubt that's the case with this fire! natural fires, i'll agree ... fires started by some homeless freak who fell asleep smoking in the bushes ...

perhaps not.
