Music and no sleep ...

Mon Apr 16, 2007, 1:38 PM
  • Listening to: the shins
  • Reading: my blackberry
  • Eating: a gyro soon
  • Drinking: espresso
Feels weird to have not gone to an airport this weekend!  I mean, yeah, we were in an airport on Wednesday and the preceding Monday but not this weekend.

Nonetheless … there wasn't a helluvalotta sleep.

And it seems that sometimes I'll be in Beverly Hills a lot or Hollywood, then again, there are times I'm going between a lot of places.

This weekend … it seemed like it was all about music.

And not sleeping.

Woke up today at noon, though.

'twas nice.

Was hired to shoot the KCRW "A Sounds Eclectic Evening."  There were some acts I'd never heard of before and others I wanted to see.

I'd heard of Lily Allen but never really heard her music.  Not typically "my genre" but she put on a great show.

She likes Jagermeister!

and the lighting manager did a great job!

Will Ferrell likes KCRW and stopped by to say hello to his friend Nic Harcourt.

Nice hair, pal.

;)

I like shooting straight into lighting sources! ;)

Travis was the special guest.  When they said Travis I thought they were talking about Travis Barker and kinda thought it wasn't his crowd.

I was happier – and one of the reasons I took the assignment – was that The Shins performed!

They led off with "A Comet Appears" … which is also playing right now.

Yes, the stage and lighting designers did an amazing job.  Makes my job so much easier when the lighting people do this kinda job.

Looking at these on a 23" Apple Cinema LCD was … well … a nice treat for tired eyes.

Between this gig and the next one J and I received very nice news.  I'm only saying it was nice news but not what the news is.  It's actually pretty big for me.  And her, for that matter.

East side, baby, east side.  We're very much looking forward to many things.

Good things.

And then … I shot a pretty random event … but got to shoot with my friend, Jeff, who's also one of the founders of WireImage …

The guy shooting jeff is Shane, someone, if you're in and around Los Angeles, may or may not let you come into one of the clubs they promote.  He may have even told you to fuck off if you told him to stop smoking inside some other venue. ;)

google Kim Kardashian. ;)

The chick is Elvis' granddaughter.  I don't really get why she's with Ryan Cabrera as I really don't know who the fuck he is.  Then again, almost everyone in LA is "someone" at least in their alcohol-fueled dreams or delusions.

The dude on the right, David, is a promoter and photographer.  Dunno the other dude.

I like pretty atmosphere photos.

Whether you like her or not – not that I fucking care – Paris is part of our atmosphere.

And this particular night – spent at the highest peak of the Hollywood Hills at a massive house – included the last show by Gnarls Barkley before they go back in the studio …

Danger Mouse likes to hide.

The band wore Vans.

and odd masks.

Oh, yeah, some rap group named Twista opened up.  Never heard of them but, then again, not my genre.

Not that Gnarls is my genre .. but … whatever.

Friggin' L.A.

As is the case with most "shuttle-provided-parties-in-the-hills," which is always beyond a clusterfuck, we had to fight over shuttles.  Which means … I have to fight with drunk-ass party guests to get in a shuttle as there's no parking up in the hills.

But this shuttle driver was asked by this drunk blonde, "how's the night treating you?"

He said nothing.

Undaunted she says, "How do you like driving a shuttle."

"Not bad for a C-student."

Not that that means shit as I know several multi-millionaires with worse than C-student records.

And then he says, "I've done these parties a lot but have yet to see so many God-damned-beautiful people in one location.

Welcome to Los Angeles.

At least I didn't lose another iPod this night.

Then again, I didn't fucking valet.

Bastards.

*looks to see if he missed any photos to post*

Okay … lunch is calling my name.

Hope all of your weekends were splendid.

I caught up on my sleep.

Cheers from the bit-warmer-Los-Angeles!

You get to eat lunch??? Amazing ... but then again, I guess food is the most important thing between shoots ... and sleep ... and time with B.

Hilarious shots of Twista ...and Paris. Just think, this could be one of the last, best pre-lockup pics.

As for Kim ... googled her and saw some outlandish shit! WTF? I knew there was some drama, but I had no idea that I missed the party! :giggle:

Nice lighting in the shot with Travis. Keep 'em coming buddy.

I think I'm heading out. I'll be around. Have a great week my friend.

So I have a little time here, while I wait for a call back from work, and I decide to start surfing some of your older journals. I am SOOOOO glad that I did. In-between the two journals I saw before this one, is this one. I can only express a small amount of jealousy here, cause if I let to much out, I might deflate and cease to exist. You got to shoot "The Shins". That is awesome. Add also that you got to shoot DJ Dangermouse and Gnarles Barkley. Just like in visual art, I like all forms of music too. I am one of those freaks that not only listens to Experimental Music, but actually enjoys it.

You are most fortunate sir

I was at home, waiting for work to call me back. Today was my day off, but they called about me coming in. My disc golf league started tonight, and if they could get someone else in, I would be able to go golf. If they couldn't then I would go in for them. So I was just waiting for them to call back so I could make my plans accordingly.

It turned out to be great use of my time though, cause you have some great shots of The Shins. I LOVE The Shins.
