Gotta love the scans. :)

I don't know about the wedding photography ... wait, I like St. patricks, and the beach bride to be, and the day before, and ... oh, Merrill's arrival and the bride putting on her shoes.

*realizes I'm rambling*

That tinyurl.com is a lifesaver. You've been missing out man.

That VT stuff is crazy. So sad. I guess we take a lot of things for granted. Nobody ever sees this shit coming.

Try to have a good weekend man. I'm trying to get caught up. ;)

I'm supposed to photograph a wedding in October.. I'm nervous as hell and told them they ought to get a paid professional since I'm far too shy and inexperianced for that field.

I remember there was an article in pop photography where they took a bland, awful photo of a flower and manipulated it so much that they "made it beautiful." I always thought the photo should be beautiful from the start..?

I love your work and am always in awe of your style. I love film photography and wish I could get back into it. Your work has always been an inspiration.

"don't comment or note or bitch or moan that i'm elitist or that"

Did I fall under this category in our last exchange? I wonder cause I hope not to have given that impression.

Other than that, I agree with the manipulation through history bit. News, especially in politically sensitive countries (like America) have always had propaganda, cover-ups and the like. I like things like Jerry Uelsmann. I always have. Those pictures intrigue me and require a lot of skill and knowledge that I don't have, but if I had the funds to back it, would love to try and learn!

As for wedding photography, the site was neat, but I will have to look more later, cause I wasn't too impressed with what I saw in my quick glance. I have never done "professional photography" cause I don't feel I have the skill or the experience required. I very much consider myself a "hobby photographer" and remain in those boundaries. However, I have taken photos at wedding using concepts, perspectives and ideas that has led to the "pros" at weddings asking if they can use my ideas that day and in future weddings. Flattered, but I am sure I wasn't the first and was happy to "grant them permission".

So here I am, back at your journal. I figured, after such a long exchange in the past entry, it would only be fair to come around and read more.

i don't think you ever said that.

seriously, i think the full impact of alterations and manipulations of things we've all seen hasn't really "hit" yet.

wedding stuff. if you're not an afficianado of the genre, i'm not sure how much impact they'd have on you.

glad to hear some pros liked your concepts.

it's all good.

Well I appreciate wedding photos, but I can get bored with the "traditional pictures". This is what will probably keep me from ever turning pro. I just want to take pictures in the way I see the world. In the way I see people interact. I saw a photo on a wedding site the other day that I had already taken at my sisters wedding. My girlfriend showed it to me, cause it was exactly what I had done, and it was their centerpiece for breaking traditional photos. Having the proffesional look at what I am doing and ask is a nice feeling, I will admit. But at the same time, I don't feel I "own" that idea by any means. In the end, I show a bunch of pictures to the wedding couple/party and they will pick out 1 out of 10 that they really really like, and include with their albums or on a wall, which is neat, but I am by now means living in the mainstream world. So I never expect much more than the happiness found in getting my nice clothes dirty to find an angle or view that is otherwise missed, but enjoyed by me.

In the end, good or bad work, I look at it all. I am a little peeping tom in that I like to look at the random snapshots others will submit as art, cause its fun, and I like to see the best in everything!

i love "not being the official shooter" and being able to give a bride and groom a few photos.

and, yeah, none of us really own any concept ... it's ALL been done before.

i, too, am a peeping tom of life ... totally agree with that!

Well... Those wedding photos are interesting, but honestly - many of them are cliched, many are photoshopped... Generally nothing really surprised me or move me. And maybe it's because those photogs that took those were actually experienced wedding shooters. I remember your photos from that wedding in italy and... well, they were different. And dare i say, without any asskissing whatsoever, that i liked those more than the ones in the Top Knots gallery. Not that these are bad..., no, rather those that you took were more... truthful.

Just a thought.
