how both myself and mario (my urban bff) ended up at the grove and then farmer's market ... i still don't remember. i mean ... we even ended up at the tar pits later that day. even later than that martinis at lola's.

2 martinis, thank you. i don't drive fucked up.

buzzed, perhaps.

fucked up, no.

whilst at the-grove-slash-farmers-market -- there are NO farmers here -- i brought the venerable leica mp. i find that i mostly bring a thirty-five summilux but my summilux met with an unfortunate incident involving a floor at LAX and is limited to shooting wide open. not that i don't like shooting wide open but ... well ... sometimes that isn't apropos.

so ... i had the even more venerable noctilux affixed to the mp.

had some delta 400. at 400.

i think half a roll or so from whatever i shot before.

i was ready for some spying.

that's really what street photography is about.

spying.

being there without really being there.

and ... soon ... me thinks ... i won't have to go art photography>urban and rural>street ... which is lame.

street is a category all by itself.

street is to be shot with a rangefinder.

you can say different ... yeah ... fucking say it ... but ... it means you just don't know.

i mean ... the first people in the frames i've included ... you put an slr up to your eye and it would have changed the whole fucking dynamic.

do it with a fucking digital snappy and they'd look at you for wholly different reasons.

a rangefinder ... ah ... a rangefinder ...

most of the time they don't even see it.

i feel almost like a ghost.

perhaps a ghost -- this time 'round, at least -- enjoying a french dip sandwich at a great little diner.

but a ghost none-the-fucking-less.

i love watching the interaction of people.

i love photographing it even more.

up-fucking-close-and-personal.

do this with an slr.

do it with an slr and a long ass lens and i'll call you a pussy.

you gotta be close to the action.

you gotta "almost get caught"...

you gotta know your distance/aperture scale.

i'm sure the asian girl and the older guy were having some tryst. he had a wedding ring. she did not.

they seemed as if they were at least in a heavy state of like ... if not love.

she didn't like his corndog.

no pun intended.

he loved the corndog.

they left holding hands.

i didn't listen to them.

i just watched.

they left.

and another pair of people sat down ... at the same time.

except they didn't know each other.

all the while james dean watched them.

the denizons of the human zoo...

enjoying diner food.

feeding the animals as it were.

it may not be interesting to anyone else ...

and ... it really matters not...

it was interesting at the time to me ...

and that ... in and of itself ... is all that matters...

that's why we put camera (rangefinder) to eye ... or waist .. or counter ...

and knowing what we know ...

we make photos.

nothing like an afternoon of fucking spying...

leica mp. noctilux 50/1.0. delta 400 (normal). all about f/5.6 to f/8.0 and pre-focused using lens/distance/aperture scale. except for the the one focused on the asian dude. i put it up to my eye for that one.

and still wasn't seen.

p.s., yeah this is a big submission. i don't give a rat's ass if you think it's too big as i made it on the new 23" lcd. looked great on it. you don't like the layout ... i don't fucking care. trust me. ;)
